Nonlinear inverse scattering methods for thermal- wave slice tomography: a wavelet domain approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
A wavelet domain, nonlinear inverse scattering approach is presented for imaging subsurface defects in a material sample, given observations of scattered thermal waves. Unlike methods using the Born linearization, our inversion scheme is based on the full wave-field model describing the propagation of thermal waves. Multiresolution techniques are employed to regularize and to lower the computational burden of this ill-posed imaging problem. We use newly developed wavelet-based regularization methods to resolve better the edge structures of defects relative to reconstructions obtained with smoothness-type regularizers. A nonlinear approximation to the exact forward-scattering model is introduced to simplify the inversion with little loss in accuracy. We demonstrate this approach on cross-section imaging problems by using synthetically generated scattering data from transmission and backprojection geometries. © 1998 Optical Society of America [S0740-3232(98)00906-5] OCIS codes: 100.7410, 290.0290, 170.6960.

A Time-Domain Method for Shape Reconstruction of a Target with Known Electrical Properties (RESEARCH NOTE)
This paper uses a method for shape reconstruction of a 2-D homogeneous object with arbitrary geometry and known electrical properties. In this method, the object is illuminated by a Gaussian pulse, modulated with sinusoidal carrier plane wave and the time domains’ footprint signal due to object presence is used for the shape reconstruction. A nonlinear feedback loop is used to minimize the diff...
متن کاملTheory of photothermal wave diffraction tomography via spatial Laplace spectral decomposition
Laser-generated thermal wave diffraction theory is presented as a perturbative Born (or Rytav) approximation in a two-dimensional spatial domain for use with tomographic image reconstruction methodologies. The ranges of validity of the pertinent twodimensional spatial-frequencylthermal wavenumber domain complex plane contours are investigated in terms of the existence af inverse spatial Laplace...

Abstract— Ultrasound tomography offers the potential for detecting of very small tumors whose sizes are smaller than the wavelength of the incident pressure wave without ionizing radiation. Based on inverse scattering technique, this imaging modality uses some material properties such as sound contrast and attenuation in order to detect small objects. One of the most commonly used methods in ul...
متن کاملWavelet-based methods for the nonlinear inverse scattering problem using the extended Born approximation
In this paper, we present an approach to the nonlinear inverse scattering problem using the extended Born approximation (EBA) on the basis of methods from the fields of multiscale and statistical signal processing. By posing the problem directly in the wavelet transform domain, regularization is provided through the use of a multiscale prior statistical model. Using the maximum a posteriori (MA...
متن کاملA wavelet-based super-resolution method for multi-slice MRI
In multi-slice magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the resolution in the slice direction is usually reduced to allow faster acquisition times and to reduce the amount of noise in each 2D slice. To address this issue, a number of super resolution (SR) methods have been proposed to improve the resolution of 3D MRI volumes. Most of the methods involve the use of prior models of the MRI data as regul...
